Silence and Socialization at the Spa

With Valentine’s Day and Family Day behind us, February can feel like a time for others rather than a time to take for ourselves.

Sometimes, when life gets busy, you just need a little quiet time.

It also depends on what kind of person you are. Some people relish their quiet time and find socialization exhausting, whereas others feel energized from being around people.

Whether you require ample socialization to recharge your batteries or you require a bit of solitude, Vettä Day Spa will offer both alternatives to meet your needs.

Finnish Culture and Socialization at the Spa

You may be wondering why we will be offering both social and quiet zones at Vettä Spa.

In Finland, saunas are a welcome part of daily life and are included in personal and professional lives.

In an earlier blog, we discussed the significance of socialization at the spa in Finland. In Finland, socializing while being in the sauna is not only extremely common, but it’s a part of Finnish culture. Nordic countries are known for their unique spa culture, making it less of a luxury and more of a necessity. Finnish people enjoy socializing while they relax and will often invite family and friends over for a sauna, much like inviting people over for dinner.

In western culture, taking a sauna is considered a luxurious experience and is often done solo.

Whether you are interested in a social spa experience or a quiet one, we will accommodate and respect our guests’ decision to do what feels best!

Socializing at The Spa

With the increase in and use of smartphones, socialization is becoming limited. Smartphones have revolutionized the way we live by keeping us connected to friends and families online, but they are often distracting during social situations and limit the enjoyment of social interactions.

As human beings, we need social interaction. Studies have shown that social interaction is a critically important contributor to good health and longevity. For years, researchers have consistently proven that social relationships affect mental and physical health.

As you grow older, a lot of us spend less time with friends and, sometimes, it’s difficult to find a time where your schedules line up. Arranging a spa day with friends, a partner, or family is a beneficial way to take time for yourself in a relaxing environment while enjoying time with others. Choosing someone you can be yourself around, where there are no social pressures, will ensure your spa day is a relaxing one.

Sometimes Silence is Golden

The saying “silence is golden” is true at the spa.

When life feels busy or hectic, a little silence can go a long way.

While socialization is beneficial for our health, silence is, too. Silence has been reported to lower blood pressure, decrease stress and even benefits brain chemistry. A study found that two hours of silence could create new cells in the area linked to learning, remembering, and emotions.

Sometimes people find silence to be uncomfortable, but whether you’re doing some deep breathing exercises or meditating, silence can do wonders for you. At our spa, we will offer quiet zones where you can enjoy noise-free saunas, pools and relaxation areas. If you feel uncomfortable going to the spa alone, enjoying silence doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be spent by yourself. Silence can be enjoyed alone or with someone you feel comfortable with.

Not Sure What You’re Looking For? Choose Vettä
