Paying homage to traditional Finnish design and sauna customs alongside modern sophistication, Vettä will provide guests a variety of opportunities for both personal and social rejuvenation. The spa will highlight the Nordic practice of thermotherapy through transcendent saunas, steam rooms, and luxurious hot & cold pools. Social interaction is an essential part of Finnish sauna tradition and will be actively encouraged and welcomed while also respecting designated quiet zones.
Vettä will offer massage therapy services, a Scandinavian-inspired bistro restaurant, several indoor and outdoor relaxation areas (including a solarium, hammock lounge, and fire pits), and a future chalet/corporate meeting facility. There will be two large, signature saunas, one of which emulates a popular public sauna outside Helsinki, Finland. With features like warm mists, central fireplaces, and meditative water features, these saunas will encourage relaxation and an appreciation of the natural elements.
About Eric Harkonen
Vettä’s founder, Eric Harkonen, is a first-generation Canadian whose parents immigrated to Northern Ontario from Finland in the 1950s.
Vettä is the realization of his ultimate dream of becoming an entrepreneur. “Five years ago, while relaxing and socializing with friends and family in my home sauna, I was asked if I had ever been to a Nordic Spa. After visiting my first Nordic Spa with my wife, Donna, we then visited the truly traditional and inspirational saunas in Finland and a world-renowned spa in Iceland. I was convinced that I could build a Nordic Spa in Ontario that was inspired by and a testament to my Finnish heritage.”
To share the relaxation and wellness benefits of a Finnish sauna that he had grown up enjoying, Eric set out with the goal of building an outdoor Nordic spa. After obtaining an Engineering degree from Queen’s University and an MBA from McMaster University, Eric spent 25 years leading and mentoring project teams on the delivery of numerous engineering and construction projects across Canada and the world, culminating in the creation of Vettä.
